The Track Record

Marcus van Enk has been building operational systems for Australian construction businesses since 2002 - before most of the industry knew what digital transformation meant.

Starting in irrigation and civil construction, Marcus spent 8 years leading multi-million dollar infrastructure projects before identifying the gap that would define his next two decades:

construction businesses had world class trade skills and no operational infrastructure to match.

That gap became the mission.

Today his systems are deployed across 1,000+ construction sites. Clients include Zinfra, KONE, Sure Constructions, Downer and Universal Civil.

Zinfra alone saved over $2 million through digital implementation. KONE digitised 25,000+ paper forms per month. Sure Constructions achieved triple ISO  certification and has operated on Marcus' systems for 12+ years.

He is the founder and CEO of Platformers®, the Australian reseller and developer of the UpviseJS platform and the creator of Kontrol4® - the Mobile Quality Management System built specifically for civil and construction operations.

Marcus now operates as a Capital Allocator — acquiring, rebuilding and systematising construction adjacent businesses using the same operational architecture he has spent 20 years developing.

INNOVATION ANCHOR INSIGHTS

Construction technology is changing faster than most businesses can keep up with.

Every month Marcus publishes practical insights drawn from 20+ years of building and deploying operational systems across Australian civil and construction businesses.

No theory. No generic advice. Observations from someone who has been inside these businesses — and built the systems they run on.

Topics include:
  • Digital transformation in civil construction
  • Capital allocation and acquisition strategy
  • Field operations and compliance systems
  • AI and automation in construction workflows
  • Building businesses that run without you

Where This Started

My grandfather escaped German captivity during World War II and immediately did what the van Enk family has always done — he built something.

A community grocery. A water supply. Infrastructure for people who had nothing.

Not because conditions were ideal. Because that's what builders do.

I entered the Australian construction industry in 2002 carrying that same instinct. I didn't start in software. I started on sites — learning how civil  construction actually works, where the friction is, where the money disappears and what it costs when systems fail under pressure.

That ground level knowledge is what makes the difference. I don't build software for construction. I build systems from inside construction.

Every platform, every framework, every acquisition filter I use today was shaped by years of watching what actually happens between the office and the field.

That's the foundation. Everything else is built on it.

These are operational systems built, deployed and running in global construction businesses — some for over a decade.

Kontrol4® MQMS

Built: 2013 — Present
The Mobile Quality Management System for civil and construction operations. Built on the Upvise JS platform with custom architecture developed by Marcus van Enk and Vertical Matters.

Deployed across 1,000+ construction sites. Clients include KONE, Zinfra, Sure Constructions, Citywide, SE Water, Universal Civil and more.

Trademark registered in Australia. Upvise® trademark held by Vertical Matters®.

Sans Paper®

Built: 2019 — Present
AI-powered field operations platform with ID and Form components. Enables paperless documentation, digital identity for field workers, and automated compliance workflows.

Most construction software treats field workers as users to be licensed.

Sans Paper ID treats them as individuals with a portable professional identity.

HOW IT WORKS:

The entity gets a corporate email and a Sans Paper ID profile - the business identity layer.

Field workers and subbies create their own Sans Paper ID using their personal email. It belongs to them — a digital passport they carry to every job, every site, every contractor they work with. Like a digital white card.

When someone leaves — permanently or at the end of a two week subbie engagement — one button revokes their access instantly.

They keep their passport. The company keeps its data.

This is how field workforce identity should work.

1555

Founded: 2020
In 1555 the Muscovy Company became one of the first joint stock companies in history. Accounting stopped being a merchant tool and became the backbone of capital  allocation.

That same transition is what construction businesses need today.

Most trades operators run sophisticated businesses on primitive records. 1555 installs the financial backbone that turns a construction operation into a capital generating business.

Built on Xero, LodgeIT and Lawpath with specialist support - 1555 delivers enterprise-grade financial management without the $40K annual accounting bill.

Purpose built for construction businesses. Part of the van Enk Business System (VEBS)..

Upvise® in Australia

Established: 2013
Marcus van Enk introduced the UpviseJS platform to Australia through Vertical Matters — more than a decade before digital transformation became standard practice in construction.

Australian Upvise®  trademark held by Vertical Matters®

Vertical Matters®

Founded: 2011 — 2019
The originating company that built and commercialised the MQMS and Kontrol4® systems. Developed the configuration of UpviseJS that made it suitable for civil and construction operations in Australia.

Vertical Matters® was the first company to achieve ISO certification using mobile-first methodologies in Australian construction.

The Upvise®  trademark in Australia is held by Vertical Matters®  - the originating company founded and operated by Marcus van Enk.

The "van Enk®" name is also trademarked through Vertical Matters® , protecting the IP and identity developed over 20+ years of construction technology innovation.

Platformers®

Founded: 2019 — Present
The evolution of Vertical Matters®.
Australia's construction technology wholesaler and platform ecosystem — serving as the authorised reseller and developer for Upvise®, Kontrol4®, Sans Paper®, and integrated Microsoft and Google infrastructure, Bitwarden, Ontraport and other construction tried and tested best-of-breed platforms.

Marlee Group

Founded: 2006 — Present
Marcus operates civil construction and property rental assets as part of his broader holding company structure.

Construction operations draw directly on 20+ years of system architecture — every project runs on the same digital infrastructure deployed to clients.

Property assets are systematised using Sans Paper workflows, digital contractor management and automated compliance documentation.

This is not passive investment. Every asset is an operating system.
